How to Celebrate Veterans Day

Take the time to honor our vets this Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is a day when Americans celebrate the brave men and women who have served in our nation’s armed forces. Although, for many of us, the day passes without the direct opportunity to honor our veterans.

Here are a handful of things that you can do today to honor a veteran. Opening your heart and giving a bit of your time is all that is required!

Say thank you. It’s a simple gesture, but it can mean a lot to the recipient. If you see a veteran in uniform out in public, simply step up and thank that person for his or her service. Many vets wear their uniforms on Veterans Day, making it easy to identify when out and about. It doesn’t take much of your day to say a sincere thank you!

Visit a retirement home. Many veterans in retirement homes would be incredibly happy if people took a moment to stop in and spend some time with them as thanks for their service. It’s easy to stop in at your local retirement home and ask if there are any veterans around so that you can personally thank them. You may even get a story or two out of them!

Help around the house. If you have a veteran in your neighborhood, stop in and ask if that person needs any help with chores. From raking the leaves to picking up dinner or changing some lightbulbs, there are a few ways to help out around the house. It can be as simple or as challenging as you want to make it, but whatever you do, it will make an impact on the life of a veteran.

Learn more. If you’re not fully aware of what veterans do, how they serve, and what our nation is really all about, spend some time learning about these important points. In essence, become the best possible citizen you can be!
